The resolution was moved by SIC president Baldev Singh Balluana, who termed the Sarbat Khalsa being organised by some “Panthic” organisations as against Sikh tenets.

The SIC also organised a seminar in which Punjab cabinet minister Surjit Singh Rakhra was also present. Rakhra said the Sarbat Khalsa was against the Sikh ‘maryada.’ He said only the Akal Takht can call such a congregation.

During the seminar, the Sikh historians said only the Akal Takhat jathedar was authorised to call the Sarbat Khalsa during emergency.

Supreet Kanwal read a paper on the historical background of the Sarbat Khalsa. Col SS Nishan (retd) cautioned the Sikh sangat against being mislead in the name of Sarbat Khalsa.
