SLIET holds conference on food

The department of food engineering and technology of Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology (SLIET), a Longowal-based deemed university, organised a national-level conference on ‘Innovative Technique in the Development of Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals’ (NCFFN-14). GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology former VC Dr BS Bisht launched the conference. He was also the chief guest.

More than 150 delegates from across the country are participating in the two-day conference and are deliberating on the present status of functional non-toxic food industry across the globe and potential of its booming demand for preventing a wide range of diseases.

Organising secretary Navdeep Jindal said, “Despite popularity of other schools of medicines for their quick effects, the vast majority of people rely on the healing power of plant-based material for availability, affordability, safety and for the minimal of side-effects it entails.” Guest of honour, Dr AS Bawa (former director of Defence Food Research Laboratory, Mysore, emphasised the importance of developing special food for people, suffering from lifestyle diseases.
