According to market observers, sales of these multifunction watches manufactured by the world’s leading watch companies have registered a spurt during the past two years.

While simple watches are definitely suitable for checking the time, opting for a watch that not only turns heads but combines a host of functions makes more sense for some.

Among the several brands that vie for attention are Japanese majors Seiko, Casio, Citizen and Orient besides Swiss watches like Tissot, Swiss Army and Omega, not to mention the homegrown Titan.

However, as most of these watches are very expensive, some of costing upwards of Rs 1 lakh, only a section of the city’s populace can afford them.

Among watches made by Citizen, there is one featuring a radio control function that enables the watch to display the time according to the country.

Tissot has touchscreen watches featuring a thermometer, compass, hydrometer, altimeter and timer among others functions.

Amrinder Chanay, a resident of Gill Road said: “I go abroad frequently and have a Casio G-Shock watch that automatically sets the time according to the time zone of the country in which I have arrived.”

Rinny Rebecca, a resident of Sarabha Nagar, said “I’m fond of wrist watches and now plan to buy one of these high-tech watches with several functions.”

Amarpreet Singh, owner of Oberio Time, a watch store, said: “The trend of wearing multifunction high-tech watches has been around for the past one year and sales of these watches are rising by the day.”
