The celebrities in alleged violation are identified as writer-director Apoorva Lakhia, known for movies like Shootout at Lokhandwala and Zanjeer, actor Varun Badola, and a third person identified as Karan.

On Saturday, two matches of Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) were scheduled to be played at Sector 16 cricket stadium. A day before, three teams reached the stadium for practice, where a few members indulged in smoking, in alleged violation of Section 4 of COTPA.

Dr Deepak Bakshi, state nodal officer, tobacco control cell, Chandigarh, along with deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Jagbir, visited the stadium and handed over a copy of challan to the three celebrities.

“Ideally, they should be more responsible. But celebrities usually think that they can break laws and can easily get away with it, but this is not the case in Chandigarh,” said Bakshi.
