Gurgaon’ sitting Lok Sabha MP Rao Inderjit Singh might have raised some eyebrows in the political quarters with his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) after being a Congress faithful for 30 years, but the Ahir heavyweight is expected to garner sizable support from the urban areas in the city because of the Narendra Modi factor.
The residents said they might vote for the BJP because they want to see Modi at the Centre even if they were not content with the performance of Singh as MP.
“The wave of the BJP in the city is not because of Rao Inderjit but because of Modi. Maximum people like Modi and therefore are supporting Rao Inderjit to bring the former to the Centre. People would have supported the BJP even if there was some other candidate,” said Manasi Tandon, a Sushant Lok resident, adding that it is impossible to imagine the BJP without the Gujarat chief minister.
These urban residents believe it’s a straight contest between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Yogendra Yadav and BJP’s Rao Inderjit in the city unlike in the rural areas. Not many are talking about the Congress, perhaps for the first time here.
“It seems the people will vote for the BJP this time. It is time to change the government. Rao Inderjit joined the BJP because he was fed up with the corruption in Congress. Also, AAP has disappointed the people with its performance in Delhi. The residents doubt the capability of the party questioning how they can manage the responsibility of the whole country when they could not even handle Delhi,” said Anupam Kataria of Regency Park, DLF-4.

{{/usCountry}}For Om Prakash Khetan of Hamilton Court in DLF-4, there are serious discussions among 70-80 residents every day during the morning walks on who will form the next government. “Inflation and corruption remain the main issues during the Congress’ reign.
The people want to give a chance to the BJP this time because they think it can deliver on its promises. Rao Inderjit is a strong candidate and Modi obviously has an impact on the voters,” he said.
Kulbhushan Bhardwaj, the general secretary of Gurgaon BJP, said the Modi wave had become a tornado that was going to sweep not just the rural parts of the state but would also sway most of the urban voters.
