With just a week left for the release of 'Eh Janam Tumhare Lekhe', a Punjabi film on the life of noted philanthropist Bhagat Puran Singh, the people from different walks of life, mainly youngsters feel that there is a need of more such films to show right path to the society.
Actor Pavan Malhotra, who plays Bhagat Puran Singh, was in the city on Saturday to talk about this film. "Cinema holds great power to influence the society. It can even change mindsets. This film, which is inundated with many examples on the life of Bhagat Puran Singh, will leave no stone unturned to inspire the society on the importance of following the path of philanthropy. It basically unfolds his life and his great deeds. Although there are many books on his life but now his life which has been brought on the reel will easily connect to the youth,"said Malhotra.
Talking to Hindustan Times, youth said there was a need to encourage such films. "Film makers rarely take up good subjects like history, literature and humanity as most of them prefer obscene subjects,"they said.
Narjeet Singh, a student of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), who was declared best actor at PAU youth festival last year, underlined that with the passage of time, the habit of reading good books is taking a back seat. But youth always accept the messages spread through cinemas. "Be it Bollywood or Punjabi cinema, there are several good movies and the society needs more in this direction. I appreciate that Amritsar-based pingalwara is all set to release the film on its founder Bhagat Puran Singh. It will inspire the people,"opined Singh. Several members of PAU's Young Writers Association also agreed to this.

Movies on Marry Kom and Milkha Singh have already been made to throw light on their lives and struggle, he said.
Akashdeep Singh Beniwal, a student of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) said, "Youth today is exposed more to vulgarity and obscenity which comes mainly from films and videos of Punjabi songs. Other than promoting vulgarity, these foster drugs and alcohol. Government should also come up with ways to discourage this and encourage film makers to touch history, literature and philanthropy. My friends and I are now all set to watch the movie on Bhagat Puran. We expect more such productions from film makers."
Punjabi Sahit Academy members have already conducted several seminars on promoting meaningful cinema. Like youngsters, they also feel that cinema holds great power to influence the society.
