The deceased has been identified as Varsha, a resident of New Vijay Nagar. Varsha, along with her 19-year-old sister, had gone to Gurdwara Shri Manji Sahib, Aalamgir, on Sunday morning. As they reached near Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, a PRTC bus allegedly rammed into their scooter from the back.

As a result both of them fell on the road, and the bus ran over Varsha, while her sister suffered injuries.

After the incident, the victims’ parents staged a protest against the police for dilly-dallying in lodging an FIR against the bus driver.
Refuting the parents’ allegations, Paramjit Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Dugri police station, claimed that the police arrested the accused bus driver, Tajinder Singh, from the accident spot and impounded the bus.

This is the second such mishap in the past three days. On Friday, a speeding bus had mowed down the son of assistant inspector general (prisons) at Dhuri Lines flyover.
