Fresh possibilities of an alliance between the Sanjha Morcha and the Congress have emerged after the Aam Adami Party (AAP) has spurned the marriage proposal of the People's Party of Punjab (PPP).
Member of Communist Part of India (CPI) national executive Joginder Dayal has signalled that the Left can seek the Congress' hand in Punjab, even if the two cannot be partners at the Centre. Beside, Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa now has said that "everything is possible in love and war".
Bajwa was always for an alliance with the Morcha but since AAP's winning 26 seats in the Delhi assembly elections and later forming the government, PPP leader Manpreet Singh Badal had switched to wooing the youngest outfit, saying his party had first promoted the values that AAP also shared.
Several rounds of failed talks later, Manpreet now claims the AAP policies do to not align with the PPP's desires. He has hoped that the opposition parties would join hands before the Lok Sabha elections and when the high court rejected Bajwa's public-interest petition for handing over the drug haul case to the Central Bureau of Investigation, Manpreet objected and said court had not been informed properly.
Under changed circumstances, when HT asked Joginder Dayal if the Left would accept the Congress proposal in spite of sharing no love with it at the Centre, he said: "Our prime motive is to defeat the combine of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state. We want to keep communal forces away from power."

However, asked about any recent meeting with the Morcha, Bajwa said: "Everything is possible in love and war. We are in at war with the SAD-BJP alliance and Punjab. Secular forces should unite to save the state."
