Punjab Chemist Association (PCA) has announced to hold a state-level strike on June 12.
The strike has been announced to mark pro test against the police action on the chemist shops to find medical drugs.
PCA president Surjeet Mehta said our only demand was to stop unnecessary harassment of the chemists.
He said, “The state gover nment had banned six medicines nearly six months ago and those were not being sold in the chemist shops, but police officials are still conducting raids to find out these medicines.”
He appealed the chemists across the state to keep their shops shut on Thursday to make the government and police department feel the depth of matter and harassment they were facing.
Meanwhile, the Ludhiana Chemist Association (LCA) didn’t stand by the strike call on Thursday. LCA president Tikka Dalip Singh said there was no point of strike and they would open shops on Thursday.
He said the decision perhaps was taken by a few people in haste and that too not in a democratic way.
“We oppose the unnecessary harassment by the police, but not in case of action against defaulters. We want a system where genuine chemists should not be harassed, but strike is not an option for it,” Tikka Dalip Singh said.
