In a statement on Thursday, Gumtala said the government website, epanchayat.gov.in, hardly provides any information on funds spent on development in rural areas. The government's claim of having taken to technology does not seem to hold true as it is still immersed in paper work and is also bent on blocking information in order to conceal siphoning off of development funds on a massive scale, he alleged.

Gumtala claimed that the tax-payer has the right to know if his money has been well spent. This can only happen if complete information regarding development works is posted on the website so that people can cross-check it, he said.

Pointing out that the Punjab and Haryana high court had directed the state government to post all the information regarding the candidates contesting the panchayat elections on a dedicated website, the PPP leader hoped that the government would be more forthcoming in giving this information at least.
