Irked with the authorities’ apathy, the residents have now sent a written complaint to the principal secretary of the local bodies department to take appropriate action in this concern at the earliest.

Students of the institute complained that they were forced to suffer due to the foul smell emanating from the dump, which also led to unsanitary conditions.

Despite the institute’s principal having written a letter to the authorities, the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) failed to come up with a permanent solution. The institute’s principal, Karpal Singh Bhullar, said “Authorities should take required steps regarding this problem so that students and teachers do not suffer anymore.”

Satish Thaman, resident of Rishi Nagar, said, “Half of the area is covered with foul smell coming from the garbage dump near the college. The delay in removing the dump can lead to serious health problems.”

Despite several attempts, LIT executive engineer Parmod Sharma from was not available for comments.
