A 45-year-old man was killed after a head-on collision between a Pepsu Road Transport Company (PRTC) bus and his sports utility vehicle (SUV) due to dense fog near Theari Jattna village on the Rajpura road on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Suresh Kumar, a resident of Lehra Gaga in Sangrur. He was alone in the SUV.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sukhdev Singh, incharge, Bahadurgarh checkpost, who is investigating the case, said the accident appeared to have been caused due to two reasons — low visibility due to dense fog and ongoing repair work on the road.

While Suresh was returning to Patiala, the bus was en route Rajpura. The bus driver fled the spot leaving the bus behind.

The ASI said a police team reached the spot on being sounded by the bus passengers who were shifted to another bus. The victim’s family members were informed and the body was shifted to Rajindra Hospital for autopsy.
