Swine flu claimed its fourth victim in the district late on Monday night.

Ranju Sharma (35), a resident of Batala Road, who was admitted at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital here in critical condition a few days back, died of H1N1 infection.

Doctors attending on her said she was hypertensive as well as diabetic and died here at around 9pm on Monday.

“The victim was taking treatment at a private hospital and had been admitted at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital for the past few days. She was tested positive for H1N1. All requisite treatment was administered to her, but her condition was critical as she was hypertensive and diabetic,” said Dr NS Neki, in charge, isolation ward at the hospital.

Three other patients who died of H1N1 infection are Sarabjit Kaur (January 20), Surjit Kaur (January 27) and Kulwinder Singh (February 7).


Suspected patient leaves hospital

Meanwhile, another suspected patient, Pawan Kumar Bhatia (52), a resident of Sharifpura, was admitted to GND Hospital early on Tuesday morning, but “left the hospital in few hours against medical advice”. Dr Neki said Bhatia was admitted at around 4am.
“He was critical and was suffering from diabetes and hypertension. Besides, there was blood in his sputum. The patient was administered treatment of swine flu, but left the hospital against medical advice,” said Dr Neki, adding, earlier too, three suspected swine flu patients had left the hospital against medical advice.
