Taking note of a large number of people queuing up outside the offices of higher police officials, Pramod Ban, the new police commissioner of Ludhiana, has directed the station house officers (SHO) to remain at their stations from 9am to 1.30pm to address residents’ grievances.
Stating that people were forced to visit higher officials as most SHOs didn’t remain at police stations, Indian Police Service (IPS) of ficer Ban said if the SHOs denied serving the people, the latter could approach him or any other top official.
Taking charge of police commissioner on Tuesday, Ban said a crime- and drug-free Ludhiana was his priority, adding that he would adopt zero tolerance in matters of crime against women.
The police department welcomed the new commissioner with guard of honour.
Talking about the drug menace in Ludhiana, the top cop claimed that the drive of police against drugs and drug peddlers was a success, as several arrests had been made and several persons had approached police seeking help in drug de-addiction.
“The police will be available for people round the clock. Our main motive is to create sense of security among people,” he added.
