Tanda car crash kills newlywed couple

The victim Sidh Raj had returned from UK after 9 years.

A newlywed couple was killed when the Honda Amaze it was travelling in rammed into a stationary tractor-trolley near Tanda on Jalandhar-Pathankot highway on Thursday.

The victims were identified as Sidh Raj Singh, 25, of Toe village in Dasuya sub-division, and his wife Anita, 21. They got married on August 1 and were living in Ludhiana.

The accident took place around 12pm when the couple was on its way to Toe from Ludhiana.

The victims were rushed to the Dasuya civil hospital where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

Tanda station house officer (SHO) Pardip Singh said condition of the car (PB-10-EY-5969) and preliminary investigation suggested that it was being driven at high speed.

“They were planning to leave for their honeymoon in a few days,” he added.

‘My son said he will be back soon’

“Before starting from Ludhiana in the morning, my son said he would be back soon. Little did we know it was the last time we were seeing him alive,” Sidh Raj’s father said.

Sidh Raj’s uncle Shiv Raj Singh said the couple was coming to meet him at Toe village.

“We have our ancestral home in Toe. Sidh’s wedding ceremony also took place here,” he added.However, the family told police that it did not want any action against the tractor-trolley driver.
