As many as 534 teachers recruited under central sponsored schemes have not been paid their salaries for the past one year. The services of these teachers are yet to be regularised, who till last were being paid by the Central government.
The teachers were recruited in 2010 under the 11th five year plan and Central project concluded in March 2012.
On March 2, 2012, the Centre had written to state authorities to immediately take over the services of teachers and make adequate fund allocation in their annual budget to pay their salaries.
Central Sponsored Scheme (CSS) teacher union state president Ram Bhajan said despite proposal of Central government to regularise their services, the state education department authorities failed to give heed to their plight. “We have held meetings with education minister Sikander Singh Maluka and other senior officials, who only made hollow promises,” he said.
The teacher union has now decided to hold a protest at Maluka outside the house of education minister on March 23.
“The authorities said that they were looking for some alternative as the education department doesn't have vacant posts to accommodate the teachers us,” he said.
District president of the union Hardeep Singh Toderpur said, “The state government seemed in no mood to take the matter seriously. The government should at least make some arrangements to pay us so that we can make both ends meet,” he said.
He said many of them were not even in a condition to leave the job as most of the teachers have crossed the eligible age to apply for other government jobs. The teachers are also demanding allowances under different heads, including medical, border area and handicapped, as being given to the other government employees.
