Teachers to explain bad performance in edu min’s ‘special class’

Thirty five government schoolteachers from the district will have to explain to education minister Daljit Singh Cheema the reasons behind the poor results in Classes 10 and 12 examination at the education department head office in Mohali on Wednesday.

At least 80 per cent of students these teachers taught are reported to have flunked their board exams.

As many as 186 teachers from across the state have been summoned to Mohali to attend the meeting to be chaired by the education minister . Not only the teachers but the principals of the respective schools and district education officers will also be present during the meeting with Cheema.

In Jalandhar district, teachers from Government High School, Bopari, Government Sports School, Government Senior Secondary, Sarih (Boys), Government Senior Secondary School, Malsian, have performed abysmally.

Last year, the Punjab School Education Board’s Class 10 result was among the worst ever, with the overall pass percentage of 68 in which Barnala and Jalandhar districts had 51.2 and 55.2 passing percentage respectively. As per information, officials will meet every teacher individually and give tips to improve their performance. The education minister had sought a detailed report of board results in the last five following which the decision to call the teachers was taken.
