Tehsildar ‘made to sign papers at pistol point’ in Amritsar, seven booked

The district police have registered a case against seven people, including a woman, after tehsildar Amritsar-1 Gurminder Singh complained that he was made to sign property documents at pistol point by the accused on July 2.

The district police have registered a case against seven people, including a woman, after tehsildar Amritsar-1 Gurminder Singh complained that he was made to sign property documents at pistol point by the accused on July 2.

In a complaint to the police, the tehsildar said, “In April, a woman Harjit Kaur along with one person came to my office and asked me to certify some legal documents (intkal). I marked an inquiry to a patwari. They again approached me and said the parwari is not certifying the documents. I talked to the patwari, who said that some documents of the sale deed were missing, so he did not certify.”

The tehsildar said, “Thereafter, Harjit Kaur kept on calling me on my mobile. On July 2, she phoned me and said that missing papers have been found. Please come to my house to collect them. I reluctantly went to her house where six more people were already sitting. They put a pistol on my forehead and got some blank papers signed,” the tehsildar alleged.

Asked what prompted him to go to their residence as it was an official work, the tehsildar said, “My intention was very clear and I just went in good faith. I was passing through a nearby area. I was standing outside, but the accused asked me to come inside the house and have tea. I have faith in police and this is the reason that I lodged a complaint,” said the officer.

Asked why was the complaint lodged after so many days, the officer said, “First, I was trying to find the accused on my own.”

The police have registered a case against Harjit Kaur, Nidhan Singh, Kabal Singh, Kuldip Singh, Sukhjinder Singh, Jaimal Singh and Salwinder Singh.
