Snatchers took away the purse of a lecture of journalism in Lovely Professional University here on Friday. Surprisingly, as she caught hold of one of the snatchers for a while, not a single person stepped forward to help her.

“I was returning home in an auto-rickshaw. When the three-wheeler stopped at lights near Geeta Mandir chowk, two persons on a motorcycle snatched my purse. I reacted by catching hold of one of the snatchers. I didn’t let him go for quite some time, before felling off the rickshaw,” she said.

“What was shocking that people didn’t step out of their vehicles to help me, even after I cried for help. I was surprised to see the casual attitude of cops towards the incident. The cops did not even bother to chase the snatchers,” she complained.

In another incident same day, Ashok Kumar of Kishanpura was stabbed by thieves. He was stabbed because he only had Rs 30 on him. He was admitted to civil hospital.
Thieves also struck at a house in Gujja Pir area and decamped with valuables worth thousnad of rupees. Burglars also ran away with a laptop and cash from an industrial unit on Kapurthala road.
