Thousands pour in as Shaheedi Jor Mela begins ; political conferences today

The three-day annual Shaheedi Jor Mela, began on Wednesday with the commencement of an akhand path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup.

The three-day annual Shaheedi Jor Mela, began on Wednesday with the commencement of an akhand path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup.

On the very first day, thousands of devotees paid their homage to Sahibzadas Zorawar Singh, Fateh Singh and their grand mother Mata Gujri Ji at Gurudwara Thanda Burj, Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, and at Gurdwara Jyoti Saroop.

They also took a holy dip in sarovars of gurdwaras. Dewans were organised in all gurdwaras. Nearby villagers organised langars for the devotees on the way the mela on all roads leading to Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib.

The SGPC has arranged a deewan where the Sikh preachers, ragis, 'dhadi jathas' will give accounts of Sikh history. Braving extreme cold, thousands of devotees are thronging the Jor Mela right from the early morning.

On this occasion, a souvenir on the Jor Mela was also released. An exhibition was also held.

Temporary barricades put up by villagers to stop commuters for langar at roadsides created traffic bottlenecks.

The SGPC organized a kabaddi competition at the sports ground of Mata Gujri College.

Thursday will be the day of conferences for almost all political parties. The arrangements for the same have been completed on Tuesday. On the concluding day on December 27, a nagar kirtan will be taken from Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib to Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup.

Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Gurmeet Singh Chohan said that no untoward incident was reported on the first day of the mela.
