Thrashed by husband, in-laws for dowry, woman suffers miscarriage

The husband and in-laws of a pregnant woman have been booked for allegedly causing her miscarriage by beating her up for not fulfilling their dowry demand at Butahari village of Dehlon.

The husband and in-laws of a pregnant woman have been booked for allegedly causing her miscarriage by beating her up for not fulfilling their dowry demand at Butahari village of Dehlon.

The accused have been identified as Sukhminder Singh, father-in-law Janmeet Singh, and sisters-in-law Kuldeep Kaur and Hardeep Kaur, all residents of Butahari village. The accused are at large.

In her complaint, the victim, Harpreet Kaur of Daulatpur village, said she married Sukhminder on December 11, 2013. She alleged that soon after marriage, Sukhminder and her family started mentally and physically harassing her for dowry.

She further alleged that despite knowing that she was two months' pregnant, her in-laws beat up her for dowry, which led to her miscarriage.

Following the complaint, a case under section 406 (criminal breach of trust), 498 (enticing or taking away or detaining with criminal intent a married woman), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 313 (causing miscarriage without woman's consent) and 34 (acts committed in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered.
