District police claimed to have arrested three persons including one woman for forging currency.

They have recovered forged money of Rs 1.62 lakh, a laptop and a printer, which were used to print the duplicate currency.

The accused have been identified as Jagtar Singh and his wife Parwati, residents of Sirhind, and Amritpal Singh, a Khanna resident.

Station house officer (SHO) Hemant Kumar said, "Our sources informed us of the crime. After verifying, we arrested the guilty. They used to scan the original currency and would print it on a special paper with the help of a laptop and a printer."

"The accused used to print the notes of denomination of 1,000, 500 and 100. They would use the money for personal needs and would also sell it," Kumar added.

Jagtar Singh already has a case registered in his name for forging currency. The police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 489A (counterfeiting currency-notes or bank-notes), 489B (using as genuine, forged or counterfeit currency-notes or bank-notes), 489D (making or possessing instruments or materials for forging or counterfeiting currency-notes or bank-notes), and 420 (offences relating to cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.
