Three arrested with poppy husk, heroin

The police arrested three persons for peddling drugs in two separate cases on Saturday. The anti narcotics and anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing arrested two persons after recovering 57 kg poppy husk from their possession. The accused were carrying the contraband packed in two sacks on a motorcycle.

The accused have been identified as Karan Kumar, 20, a resident of Chhapra Saran village of Bihar, and Jatinder Prasad Yadav, 34, a resident of Patna, Bihar. Both the accused used to live in a rented accommodation in Neechi Mangli village of Sahnewal.

Sub-inspector Harbans Singh, incharge, anti narcotics and anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing, claimed, "The police arrested the accused from near Government Senior Secondary School, Neechi Mangli following a tip-off. The accused were crossing the road on a motorcycle."

"When frisked the police recovered 57 kg poppy husk from their possession. The accused admitted that they used to smuggle poppy husk from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh at the cost of Rs 1,300 per kg and used to sell it among addicts on three times higher rates," Singh claimed.

In another case, the CIA staff-2 police have arrested a man from Jassian road after recovering 10 gm heroin worth `5 lakh from his possession. The accused has been identified as Avinash Kumar alias Avi of Joginder Nagar, Haibowal Kalan. The accused told the police that he used to procure the contraband from Tarn Taran-based peddler Jeet. A case under sections 22, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against him at Division Number 4 police station in this context. Sub-inspector Rajesh Kumar, incharge at CIA staff-2, said, "The police have been investigating the matter and will arrest Jeet also."
