They have accused even chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of betraying their association, and in a letter to him, conveyed their strong resentment over the proposal to raise the retirement age from 62 to 65 and make an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer eligible to be CMD or director. Chaudhri is to retire on February 9, at 62.

"The association will hold rallies against the proposals designed to oblige the incumbent CMD and placate bureaucracy," Baldev Singh, president of the engineers' association, said here on Monday.

From February 6, all engineers of Powercom and Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) will protest for two hours in Patiala, Bathinda and Jalandhar, and intensify the agitation, if the government implemented the two proposals and violated the tripartite agreement (TPA) signed with the management and employee unions in 2010 when the erstwhile Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) was unbundled.

"Self-serving individuals wish to prolong their tenures on high posts in utter disregard of the larger interests of the organisation. We are shocked and dejected to learn that these lobbies have obtained your sanction to their nefarious designs," reads the letter.

The engineers want the CMD's post advertised in keeping with the TPA.
