Despite demand of separate toilets, the municipal corporation (MC) has not taken any step to construct them.

Meanwhile, the toilets for males that are easily available are in pitiable condition. MC’s MC’s Zone A office does have a toilet for women on the ground floor, but has been lying neglected, leading to its appalling condition.

Requesting anonymity, a female employee of the MC said “Women employees at the MC Zone A office are facing many problems due to only one toilet available at ground floor. Women from different floors also come down to use the washroom and the general public that visit the MC office on daily basis is adding to the problem for them.”

Besides, though there is facility of urinals outside gate number 3 of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), no toilets have been arranged for women.

The situation is similar outside SCD Government College, creating problem for women commuters.

Amanpreet Kaur, a resident of Model Town, said “Washrooms for women are missing in many places. It shows discrimination between men and women. This leads to many problems for women commuters who feel disappointed with the authorities sheer disregard.”

Additional commissioner Davinder Singh said, “This issue has not brought to my notice and I will inspect it.”

Dharam Singh, superintending engineer of buildings and roads department, MC, said “The facility of washrooms for women is important. I will look into construction of these toilets.”
