To achieve the ‘Make in India’ mission, the skill development programme in Ferozepur has initiated a campaign to facilitate toolkits to the ITI pass-outs to make them self- reliant. Under this initiative, in a month’s time, minimum 300 pass-outs will be sanctioned soft loan and a grant of Rs 3,000 by the labour department for these tool-kits.
“Despite a number of students passing out annually from government as well as private ITIs, there is acute paucity of field workmen: electricians, carpenters, welders and AC mechanics,” said DPS Kharbanda, deputy commissioner (DC). “We surveyed ITI pass-outs and found out that a majority of them did not have the tool-kit necessary to start their own workshop, these cost around Rs 10,000 to Rs 35,000. So, we decided to facilitate them the tool-kits through soft loans under DRI and MUDRA schemes,” he added.
“So far 10,000 students, especially girls, have been trained in 13 skill centres in Ferozepur. This will enable them to earn a livelihood. To ensure regular work for them, we have procured orders from bulk users like schools, BSF and Punjab Police,” said the the deputy commissioner.

{{/usCountry}}“After undergoing skill training, I am able earn Rs 12-15,000 by sewing school uniform and other garments,” said Amanpreet Singh, a Class 12 passed girl from a local village, Karma. Last month, Punjab chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal launched a mobile app ‘E-Rozgaar’ prepared by local administration. This aimed to help youngsters know about skill development courses and centres and register for them.
