A visit to the market revealed that the tyres were filled with water and they were everywhere, on roadsides and on roofs of the shops.

Earlier, the health department had found larvae of mosquitoes in tyres.

When informed about this, the district health department said that the municipal corporation would take action soon. District epidemiologist Dr Anil Verma said that the teams of health department would again visit the market, adding that the action had to be taken by the municipal corporation.

The accumulated water on the premises of municipal corporation building is too an open invitation to dengue and a big question mark on the seriousness of the civic body to check dengue. The stagnant water on the road dividers, near the MC commissioner's house, is also becoming a source of breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Major (retired) Sher Singh Aulakh, who is general secretary of Exservicemen Welfare Society, said the authorities should take immediate preventive steps as the dengue cases were on the rise.

When contacted AS Sekhon, joint commissioner of MC, said, “We have recently issued challans to the shopkeepers in the Tyre market. The teams will take immediate steps to remove tyres and accumulated water at different places.”


16 new cases of dengue reported

Sixteen new cases of dengue were reported here on Monday. The patients belong to Gill Road, Jawadi Kalan, Partap Nagar, Sarabha Nagar, Rishi Nagar, Aggar Nagar, Jassian Road, Rahon Road, Basti Jodhewal, Shimla Puri and Pakhowal Road.
