The incident also led to disruption in power supply to some of the industrial units, said police.
Police said it took around 10 hours to remove the tower and resumption of traffic on the national highway.

Traffic in-charge Karnail Singh said the incident took place in Mandi Gobindgarh when the driver of the truck which was on way to Khanna from Sirhind side lost control over the vehicle and rammed into a 66 KV electricity tower that fell on the road leading to traffic jam on the high way.

The work to remove the tower from the highway was started soon and they informed the electricity department to trip the power connection to avoid any untoward incident, he added.
Singh said the tower was cut into pieces using cutters and removed.

A case was registered against the driver under sections 279 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
