The third accused, however, is absconding so far.

The Kotli Surat Malhi police station SHO said Harwinder Singh of Rehamabad lodged a complaint that a resident of his village told him that Sonu Masih of Dehar village teased his daughter.

He called Sonu and scolded him for his conduct. Agitated over this, Sonu along with his two friends Roka Masih and Manbir Singh fired at him on October 29 when he was going to Batala. The bullet hit his leg and he fell down on the roadside.

Hearing the noise, local residents come to his rescue, forcing the miscreants to flee from the spot.

The police have registered a case against all the three accused. After getting a tip-off, a police team arrested Sonu and Roka from Athwal village on Friday while Manbir Singh is still at large.
