Two held in Ludhiana for smuggling narcotics in school van

The accused have been identified as Inderjit Singh (45) of New Kuldeep Nagar and his nephew, Gurpreet Singh. Police have recovered 45-kg poppy from their possession.

A case under Sections 15/61/85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at Shimlapuri police station.

Gurpreet Singh owns a van that he used to pick and drop Kundan Vidya Mandir (KVM) students. The accused had painted the name of school all over the vehicle.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Balbir Singh, who is investigating the matter, said the police arrested the accused from near Arora Cinema during a special checking on Friday evening.

Police have been trying to find the past criminal record of the accused and are questioning them to know from where they got poppy and to whom they were going to deliver it.
