The local police on Friday claimed to have cracked the case of desecration of Gutka (a small book of essential Sikh religious verses) last month in Zira subdivision of this district.
On November 11, pages from the book were torn off near a gurdwara and foul words written over. Heavy police force had to be deployed to contain the public anger, while a case was registered.
“Sleuths led by superintendent of police (investigation) Amarjit Singh on Friday rounded up villagers Iqbal Singh of Gadri Wala and Gurbachan Singh of Ferro Kee in Zira,” said Ferozepur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Hardiyal Singh Mann.
“We have gathered from the arrested men that they targeted Zira for creating disturbance because it had peaceful in the wave of desecration sweeping the state,” said the SSP.
