The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) authorities on Thursday said that the state had power purchase arrangements with 60 sources from different states to ensure uninterrupted supply.
Chief communications officer of the state-run power company, Dev Vrat Sharma, said at a press conference here that Haryana was purchasing power from Assam, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir to meet the power requirement.
He said that this season the state expected electricity consumption between 8,500-9,000 mega watts.
"Haryana has surplus power availability and each category is getting more than the minimum ensured supply on any given day," he said while denying reports of power shortage in the rural areas.
Sharma said that reason behind closure of various units of power generation plants in Haryana was the availability of electricity at cheaper rates.
"As certain units have turned obsolete, the cost of per unit electricity gets expensive than available in the market. So it is a wise step to get supply at cheaper rate," he said.
Superintending engineer (operations), Karnal circle, TK Mahajan, said that power situation in the circle was normal and in July the nigam had supplied 3,625.26 lakh units, an increase of 22.22 percent than last year in the same period.
He said that as per the nigam's power regulatory measures, UHBVN was ensuring minimum eight hours supply to agriculture consumers from dedicated feeders, 14 hours to rural domestic consumers, 21-24 hours to consumers in the rural areas.
