The deceased identified as Jaspal Singh was survived by his wife and three-year-old son.

Jaspal had reportedly taken a loan of Rs 15 lakh from different sources and was under depression due to the family’s financial condition.

Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ugarahan) block president Bhola Singh said Jaspal owed Rs 10 lakh to a local bank and Rs 5 lakh to a commission agent.

“The deceased had even mortgaged a chunk of his land to repay the installment of a tractor he had brought on loan last year,” he informed.

The union president further revealed that the deceased owned six acres of land and took six acres on lease to cultivate cotton last year, but his crop was damaged due to the whitefly attack.

“The government has given a compensation of Rs 20,000 against his loss so far,” the union claimed.
