DSP (detective) Ranjit Singh Toor told reporters that Jal Singh, a native of Agra, and working as a sweeper at Vardhman textiles in Bathinda for four years has been arrested for murdering Rajani earlier this month.

The woman had reportedly refused to get into a relationship with Singh.

"The victim's husband, Ravi Kumar, a resident of Agra, had lodged a complaint on December 3 that his wife was missing. Later, the woman's body was near the factory they worked in on December 11. Following this a case for murder was registered."

Investigations later revealed that the accused had tried to rape the victim on December 3. When the woman resisted, she was murdered with a sharp-edged weapon.
