According to sources, the police got information regarding a mentally challenged girl at a gurdwara in Alamgir in June this year. As they could not find her parents, the cops sent her to an orphanage in SAS Nagar.

Following the intervention of Punjab Child Rights Commission, the girl’s medical examination was conducted and it was found that the victim was pregnant, prompting the commission to lodge a complaint.

The case has been registered against unidentified persons under Section 376 (rape), and Section 4 of protection of children from sexual offences act.
