Some unidentified persons damaged an unguarded Canara bank ATM machine at Kalsi Nagar in Focal Point area on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday in an attempt to steal cash from it.
The accused had cut opened the ATM machine with gas cutter, but failed to remove the cash tray. They had also cut cables of close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed inside the ATM room.
The complainant, Charinjeev Arora, who is manager of the bank, stated that when he came to open the bank on Thursday morning, he found that ATM machine was damaged, following which he informed the police.
Station house officer (SHO) at Focal Point police station inspector Surinder Singh said on being informed police reached the spot and initiated investigation in the case. “The accused also cut the wires of CCTV cameras after entering in the cabin. The CCTV footage revealed that a person with covered face entered into the ATM with a gas cutter,” he said.
The police have registered a case against unidentified persons at Focal Point police station in this context.
It is pertinent to mention here that police commissioner had recently ordered the banks to close ATMs without security guards at night.
