Chandigarh Administration has a reason to cheer as they have got five days more to submit the smart city proposal. The Ministry of Urban development (MoUD) has communicated to the UT administration that the last date for accepting applications has been extended from April 15 to April 21. With this, the administration gets another five days to work on its smart city proposal.
The UT Administration officials also had a video conferencing meeting with the representatives of the ministry of urban development and discussed the elements of the smart city proposal. Chandigarh, which failed to get into the first 20 smart cities cut, is among the fast track cities that have to submit their re-worked smart city proposal to be selected among the next top 23 cities.
The UT Adviser Parimal Rai focusing on the smart city proposal had asked the officers to make city emerge as a place for innovation and startups. He has also suggested involving the research institutes such as PGIMER, Panjab University and Punjab Engineering College (PEC) for encouraging students to come up with their innovations. The UT administration’s revised smart city proposal aims at projecting the city as a hub of innovation and start-ups among others. Prominent changes in the proposal are the inclusion of parts of Sectors 16 and 18 in the area-based development plan. The UT Administration has also uploaded its revised proposal on mygov.in to seek suggestions from the public this entire week.
The administration next week plans to hold group discussions with different organisations such as industrial associations, resident welfare associations, market associations and prominent members of the community before finalising the proposal.
