The perks IAS officers enjoy are falling short of their expectations, it seems. At least this is true for the chief executive officer (CEO) of Chandigarh Housing Board, SB Deepak Kumar, who has made a demand for a specific smart phone worth Rs 50,000 from the board. However, the setback came to the IAS officer when board’s secretary Adapa Karthik turned down the ‘demand’, saying there was no policy to provide the gadget to the board officers.
The communication sent by executive engineer (electrical), CHB, Sunil Malik, on behalf of Kumar to the board secretary, reads, “It has been desired that a new mobile phone should be provided to worthy chief executive officer. It has been decided to procure a ‘Sony Xperia 25 Dual Gold’ handset, priced at Rs 49,990.”
Secretary of board, Adapa Karthik, said, “Since there was no policy to procure a handset for board’s CEO, the demand couldn’t be met. We are in the process of making a policy in this regard.”
Speaking to HT, Sunil Malik said, “I am not authorised to comment, but we do have a policy to provide mobile phones to officers.” It is learnt that Malik in the past had procured expensive mobile sets for a few executive engineers at the expense of the board even though there was no such policy.
As per the norms, senior officers of CHB are entitled to get their mobile bills reimbursed, but board doesn’t provide them handsets.
