Prices of most vegetables available in various markets of the district have started falling thanks to the arrival of vegetables from Punjab and Haryana mandis.
Peas that were being sold for Rs 120 per kilo earlier are now available at Rs 70 per kilo. Similarly, retail rates of cauliflower, carrot, brinjal and spinach have gone down by 50% during the last three days. Tomatoes are also being sold at Rs 20 per kilo against Rs 50 to Rs 60, earlier.
However, potatoes are still available at Rs 30 to Rs 35 per kilo that has harmed the cause of the common man. Wholesalers say the arrival of fresh vegetables from Punjab and Haryana markets has led to prices going down, as a result of which their sales have picked up steadily.
They say this trend is likely to go on till the end of winter and prices will fall more in the coming days.
A wholesaler Vishal Thakur said he was happy with the arrival of vegetables from Punjab markets because vegetables in local markets were costly.
Meanwhile, locals are happy with the trend saying that they had to spend too much on vegetables for daily use during the last three to four months.
Hamirpur resident Sarita Devi said she was going to purchase most vegetables such as peas and cauliflower in large quantities once their rates fell more and would preserve them by drying for the lean season.

{{/usCountry}}A hotel owner Ram Singh said he was happy with the new rates of vegetables as it was difficult for him to sell vegetarian dishes to people on rates fixed by the district administration.
With the district administration and mandi committee taking a tough stand on vegetable wholesalers, it is hoped that vegetables prices will come down further and that the common man will be benefited in the process.
