Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday served a two-week ultimatum on the SAD-BJP government for withdrawing all "false cases" registered against Congress workers in the state.
He warned that if the government failed to concede to this demand, Congress workers from across the state would take to the streets and bring Punjab to a halt.
Addressing a protest demonstration organised here by Harminder Singh Gill, who lost the assembly polls from Patti constituency, the PPCC president reminded chief minister Parkash Singh Badal that his was a people's government aimed at serving the people and not victimising them.
"Today I want to ask Badal as to what has he learnt from such a long innings in politics apart from victimising political opponents," he said, pointing out that Badal had gone back on his commitment to stop cases of vendetta against Congress workers.
The PPCC president said that very soon he would call a meeting of party workers, where he would move a resolution against the vendetta politics of the SAD and the follow-up action to be taken.
"We will bring Punjab to a halt by blocking every highway and road. You can put us behind the bars, but we will again come out on the roads," he asserted.
