"It is surprising that in spite of enough evidence of Shivali's public humiliation, which forced her to take the extreme step, the erring inspector has not been booked for abetment of suicide," Shivali's brother Karan told Hindustan Times.

"We have formally lodged complaint with the police against Balwinder, seeking her arrest," he added.

On the directions of Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, inspector general of police (IGP, zonal), Gurpreet Deo had conducted an inquiry into the case. She submitted her report on Wednesday.
