Earlier this week, the ACP had filed a bail application in the Punjab and Haryana high court, which was turned down.

The vigilance department had registered a case against ACP (Gill) Gurcharan Singh under Prevention Of Corruption Act on September 9, for accepting Rs 25 lakh as bribe to favour a motor vehicle inspector (MVI), Rakesh Kumar Gupta, who is absconding and faces charges of corruption and possessing opium.

Fearing that he may leave the country, the VB has also issued look over circulars (LOC) against the ACP.

On the other hand, absconding motor vehicle inspector Rakesh Kumar Gupta too had filed a bail application in the Punjab and Haryana high court, which is still pending.

Snehdeep Sharma, SSP, economic wing (vigilance bureau), said that bureau was trying its beast to arrest Gupta.
