Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Prem Kumar Dhumal said on Thursday that chief minister Virbhadra Singh should resign his post for being grilled by the Central Bureau of investigation in a corruption case.
The former chief minister alleged that Virbhadra had “no moral right” to remain in power at a time when the country was preparing for general elections and all parties were contesting the polls on the plank of eradication of corruption.
He added that the general elections were “vital” for the Indian polity as they would decide the fate of the nation.
Addressing party workers at Bhoranj near here on Thursday, alleged that the Congress was a “party of corrupt people” and had no right to seek votes. “Singh is in the habit of targeting his opponents for opposing him in the elections,” he alleged.
Dhumal claimed that he and his sons were not afraid of any inquiry or threats of registration of cases against them by the vigilance bureau, adding that whatever the bureau was doing was at the behest of the chief minister, who was himself facing corruption charges and being grilled by the CBI.
“The Dhumal family has committed no crime and is not afraid of the state government’s threats,” he added.
The BJP leader said there was “nothing wrong” in giving land for the construction of cricket stadiums at Dharamsala and other places in the state.
