Various organisations in the city celebrated Vishwakarma day on Friday. Baba Vishwakarma International Foundation celebrated the day by honouring 11 personalities of the city, who contributed for the welfare of the society, with 'Baba Vishkarma Rattan' award. The event was presided over by chief patron Krishan Kumar Bawa.
Member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu and former minister Malkeet Singh Dhaka were also present on the occasion. People who were honoured were Ranjodh Singh, Baljinder Singh Kalsi, Mahinder Singh, Ranjeet Singh Bedi, Ranjeet Singh Gharyal, Manjeet Singh Moga, Mohinder Singh Maholi, Baldev Singh Matharoo, Bhupinder Singh Crystal, Jatinder Singh Lal and Sarabjeet Singh Manu.
On the occasion, Bawa also raised five demands, including changing the name of Miller Ganj area to Baba Vishwakarma Nagar, a university of Baba Vishwakarma Rattan, post office to be opened in the name of Baba Vishwakarma and land for Baba Vishwakarma Bhawan in the city.
Bittu said, “The government should allot the land for the the bhawan and I will donate `10 lakh for the construction of the bhawan.
The day was also celebrated by Indian Institute of Architects Ludhiana Center (IIA-LC).
Joint scretary of IIA-LC Harinder Boparai informed that lord Vishwakarma designed the holy city of Dwarka, where lord Krishna ruled. Dwarka was also the maha-sabha of Pandavas.

Member of the IIA-LC Rajan Tangri explained that lord Vishwakarma was also the creator of many fabulous weapons for the Gods. He was also called the divine carpenter and was mentioned in Rig Veda. Earlier, architects used hand tools such as drawing board, set squares, T-squares and parallel bars and they used to worship their tools on this day.
