Chairman of Punjab Waqf Board Izhar Alam on Saturday said that there was scarcity of fund with the board following the new guidelines of the state government that forbid lease of properties and requires auctioning them.
Alam said that there were many properties that have been encroached upon or have been grabbed. “We are fighting cases to remove the encroachments and trying to take back the land from grabbers,” said Alam.
He said that there were at least 25,000 properties of board in Punjab out of which nearly 18,000 were mosques and 7,000 agricultural lands.
Alam said that the demand of the Muslim community to establish a school in Ludhiana had been
agreed upon. “Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal will come on February 1, to lay the foundation stone of Islamia Public School at Rahon Road,” said Alam.
He said that the school would work on no profit; no loss basis and students would be charged a minuscule fee. “The school will be open to all communities and not only Muslims,” said Alam.
“After laying the foundation stone, the chief minister will also come to the royal palace to have discussion with the members of Muslim conference. He will listen to the issues related to the Muslim community in Ludhiana,” added Alam.

{{/usCountry}}Hafiz Tehseen Ahmad, member of the state Haj Committee, said that by agreeing to the demand of opening up of a school, Alam had done a lot for the Muslims in Ludhiana.
