Residents of Basti Mithu locality in ward number 43 of the city complained of water shortage for past several days due to lack of tubewells in their ward.

There are only seven tubewells installed in the ward which failed to fulfill the water needs of the residents as a result of which problem occurs, especially during the summers as more water is required. The locality has more than 150 houses and needs water for at least 600 residents for drinking and irrigation purposes.

Onkar Singh, a resident of the locality, said he had to go to his relatives’ house to take bath as there was no water his house for the past 20 days. “Before the assembly elections in 2012, local MLA and forest minister Bhagat Chunni Lal had promised to install new tubewells here. Even as more than two years have passed since but the tubewell are nowhere,” he said. Area councillor Pritam Singh claimed that there was shortage of space for installing tubewells.
