While honoring all four students from the district who figured in the merit list of class-12 examination declared by the Punjab School Education Board, Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, chairman, Baba Farid Group of Institutions, Deaon, Bathinda, claimed that the success of the students is a victory over the culture of private tuition and dummy admission in schools.
"All four positions in the merit list have been bagged by the students of Baba Farid Senior Secondary School, Deaon. Three of these students (non-medical) are Nisha Bindal, Krishan Raj and Jagdeep Singh, who have obtained 92.44%, 92% and 91.78% marks, respectively. The fourth position has been bagged by Chahat Singla (91.78%), a student of commerce stream," said Dhaliwal, while addressing a press conference here on Monday.
He said, "We established the institution with a view to making it free of tuition culture, dummy admission, drug menace and copying in examination. The success of students has made me realise that the dream has come true. Though the BFGI students bag positions in the merit list every year, this year, by bagging all four positions in the merit list, students of Baba Farid Senior Secondary School have created a history."
"The last position holder in the merit list obtained 91.56% marks and seven students of the school were deprived of getting positions only by 1%. As many as 632 students appeared in the board examinations of 2013. Of them 11 have secured more than 90% marks, 119 got 85% marks, and 254 students have obtained more than 70% marks," said Dhaliwal.

Nisha Bindal gave the credit of her success to the hard-working teachers and the tuition-free culture of the institute.
Krishan Raj, the second-position holder, who wants to become an IAS officer, said he had been successful due to the strenuous efforts of his teachers and motivation of his parents. He said the institute was free from copying in examination.
Chahat Singla also gave the credit of her success to her teachers for adopting innovative teaching methodology that keeps the students far from being bookworms and crammers.
Education minister Sikander Singh Maluka appreciated the meritorious students and management of the institute by sending a congratulatory message. He said it was a matter of pride for the whole district that four top positions had been bagged by the BFGI students.
