Hundreds of workers, led by district Congress committee president Rajinder Beri, Congress councilor Des Raj Jassal and several other Congress councillors, raised slogans against the state government and threatened to gherao the office of the municipal corporation, if the state government failed to meet their demand.

"In 2007, they promised to provide 2-marla plots to those without houses but nothing was done. Again during 2012 elections, they promised the same by increasing the plot size from 2 marlas to 5 marlas. Nearly two years have passed since then, but they have not fulfilled their promise," said Beri.

In his address, Jassal appealed to the people to teach the ruling party leaders a lesson in the coming elections. "BJP programmes focus on the middle class only while SAD is concerned with the uplift of the farming community. Time has come to teach both the parties a lesson," he said.

The rally was also addressed by Congress leader Avtar Henry (Junior). The agitators later moved towards the office of the deputy commissioner and staged a protest outside the office.

A memorandum of demands was also submitted to sub-divisional magistrate Neeraj Kumar Gupta.
