Investigation officer (IO) Ved Parkash, incharge of police post focal point, said on Thursday that Jatinder Kumar (22) had married Nisha of Bheem Nagar two years ago despite parental opposition.

"His father Satpal told police that Nisha lived for only a few months with Jatinder and returned to her parent's house in the neighbourhood due to marital dispute," said the IO.

"Jatinder was forced to commit suicide after his in-laws, including his wife, continued to harass him," the father alleged in his police complaint.

The in-laws had lodged a complaint under the dowry act with women's cell of Moga police and demanded Rs 5 lakh but later agreed to settle the dispute for Rs 2.50 lakh," the police official said.

"A case has been registered under Section 306 and 349 of IPC against Nisha, Raju and Munna (brothers-in-law), Gurdas (father-in-law) and Santosh Rani (mother-in-law). The accused are still at large," the police official added.
