‘Will confront those using drugs during LS election campaign’

Members of Mahattar Sathi Jagriti Manch (Navkairan Women Welfare Association) have formed a “belan brigade” to put an end to use of drugs during the election time.

They have started the door-to-door campaigning in villages to educate the residents not to cast their vote to candidates offering drugs or liquor ahead of the elections.

The women said if they find anybody distributing drugs and liquor to garner votes, they would confront such people.

Anita Sharma, president, Navkiran Women Welfare Association, said they had asked for a hotline number from the election commission wherein anyone could contact if they found anyone distributing drugs while campaigning.

They had enrolled housewives, social workers and college students as part of their brigade, the Navkiran Women Welfare Association president further informed.

Jessica, Doaba region in-charge, said they would also fight with rolling pins if they found anybody using unfair means.

“After getting complaint through hotline numbers, we will inform the election commission office and deputy commissioner to take further action,” she said.
